Neighborhood shops
elping define Town Commons as a Traditional Neighborhood Development will be the street-level shops and stores lining the entrance to our community, much like the quintessential Main Street of many small towns in the Midwest. This mini-downtown, expected to be completed in October, will feature 13,000 square feet of retail space behind stylish, old-fashioned facades along a streetscape accented with Victorian lampposts. The stores are aimed at serving the residents of Town Commons and include a food market, a pizzeria, a laundry and a wine shop. Above the stores on the second and third floors are two- and three-bedroom apartments.
Purple Mushroom Market & Cafe
The Purple Mushroom Market & Cafe is a eat-in cafe, coffee bar and carryout delicatessen. It offers gourmet and speciality sandwiches, fresh side dishes, a variety of espresso, lattes, coffee and other speciality drinks, a deli meat and cheese selection and the "Dragon Slayer" signature line of sauces and seasonings. The shop has a patio for sidewalk cafe seating during warm weather. Its deli section includes domestic and imported meats, cheeses and condiments, as well as a variety of specialty products created by Chef/Owner Sterling Maxfield, including assorted appetizers, completed entrees and side dishes, quiche, various stews, etc. The store also offers the "Working Chef" carryout program that allows a customer to pick up the ingredients and, with minimal work, prepare a restaurant style meal at home. Chef/Owner Sterling Maxfield is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and has more than 25 years of experience in the food service industry, including serving as a chef in some of Detroit's and Hawaii's most respected eateries.
